Arriving Bari - Italy
27/09/2008
We arrived at Bari at 10pm and expected like a lot of other people to find a line up of taxis - but there were none. We knew our hotel was not far we estimated about a 15 minute walk - so off we set... After about 30 minutes we were still not out of the dockyard. We could see the street we wanted to go to but we had a high cyclone fence in our way and it seemed there was no escape. So we had to retrace our steps back to the ferry terminal. Luckily a taxi came along to drop someone off so we asked the driver to take us to our hotel.
We were so glad to get there but this was short lived as they had not received our booking although I had received a confirmation. I had booked on line which was through a booking agency. Anyway, they found us a room... which must have been right next to the air conditioning room it was so noisy, that Bob complained. We got another room which was at least quiet although the mattresses were as good as boards. So not a very good nights sleep.
At breakfast an American couple who were on the ferry asked us how we got to the hotel. So we told them our story. They walked to the hotel and got lost, they met a nice policeman who gave them a map and then some nice Italians who walked part of the way directing them and practicing their english. Their room was tiny and next to the elevator so they heard the "ping"all night. Oh what fun!!
