Korcula Old Town
21/9/2008
This morning we followed the majestic staircase that leads into this atmospheric walled old town of Korcula. It really has a a lovely ambiance walking the narrow cobbled streets and is great for photos - a very relaxing place. The locals claim it to be birthplace of Marco Polo and are very dark on the Venetians who claim him as theirs.
Lots of neat little cafe's to people watch which seems to be a big past time here. We are not seeing the crowds of tourists we saw in Split.
While we enjoyed a gelato we watched the watercraft coming and going and the parade of people sauntering by. The harbour is full of a variety of yachts. Some of the them must belong to the rich and famous as they have a Mr Muscle standing at the gangplank or parading the deck. We have been watching a paparazzi strolling up and down the waterfront with many expensive looking cameras flung around his neck. Didn't see him taking any photos though.
Time to arrange our escape! Checked out the ferry for Tuesday to Dubrovnik and accomodation with Renata Zijadic. When I rang she did not speak much english and asked me to send an email.
